UNESCO Community-Based Inventory of Pahari Intangible Heritage

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, supported by UNESCO, worked with 18 community members — including farmers, healers, musicians, and craft workers — to inventory the intangible cultural heritage of Badikhel's Pahari community.

The inventory captured living traditions across multiple domains:

• Shamanistic healing practices performed by Jhankri practitioners.
• Traditional bamboo weaving techniques and the specific items produced.
• Folk songs, ritual calendars, and oral histories tied to seasonal cycles.

Officials stressed that communities are the main actors in safeguarding their intangible culture. The inventory was designed as a community-led process, not an external survey.
